Youth Exchange

The mobility within the framework of Non-Formal Education in Action took place between 11-16 February 2019 in Timișoara, situated in the Timiș county, in the western part of Romania.

27 youth workers from 9 countries (Romania, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Lithuania, Poland, Spain, Slovakia, Latvia) participated throughout the six days of workshops based on non-formal education methodologies.

The participants were accommodated in the “Triple F Residence” three-star Youth Hotel, as close as possible to where the workshops were being held.

The activities were carried out in the same building as the Youth Hotel, more specifically inside the Timisoara Youth House.

Throughout the daily activities, the participants got to interact with each other, to learn and share experiences and to discover the local culture .

The project was based on the need to develop different methods for education, through learning proces. It gathered 27 people from 9 countries, who took part in activities about various non-formal educational methods. As the title of the poject says Non-formal education in action, I was suprised how easy and simple it was to make these methods non-formal. For example through games and real life situations we learned a whole new method what we can use in real life situations or while working with other people.

Some of the methods were a little bit more complicated than others, some more easy. For sure we all took something new from this training course. Our coaches broke  the ice between the participants early, so it was easier to work together from the beginning of the project. It helped to see the strong and the weak sides of participants, to use them and help them “grow” in difficult situations.

The organizers took care of us at highest level, we had amazing trainers, and variety of food choiches. We had a lot of fun in traditional evening and intercultural night.  The project and transportation was well organised, we had most of the planned activities, …

It was my first time in Romania and first project with CSDT and I was really pleasantly surprised by the quality of the project. I’ve been to quite a few Erasmus plus training courses before, however, for the first time it felt like I was actually being trained. Every part of the program was thought through, well prepared and I was really happy about the organizational side of things. The trainers were amazing, they managed to assemble the group into a “family” in just half of the day. The group energy was just uplifting and everyone was really there to learn and be a part of the process. I think the major part of the experience for me was not only learning about different methods of facilitation and non-formal education, but actually trying to facilitate. That was the key goal of the project and it felt like a big accomplishment, especially that everyone did it really well and learned also from each other. The project exceeded my expectations and I can’t be grateful enough of all the memories, friendships and experiences I brought home with me back to Lithuania.

The project Non-Formal Education in Action was a great experience with amazing participants with whom I had lots of fun during our activities and free time. The training sessions and overall activities were very well organized and the two trainers gave their full interest which made me feel I really improved my skills after this week. Because of their involvement, the whole group bonded faster and stronger and we felt more confortable to share our thoughts and ideas. Thanks to this project, I had the opportunity to see in action the power of non-formal education when used properly and its importance in aiding formal education, as the results are obvious and shapes young people properly. The organizing team was also amazing, they were very responsive to our requests and always available to help. Whenever needed, the participants gave their feedback for logistics, food or other aspects and if there were any requests, the organizers would take care of it promptly. In short: great!

It was one of the best Erasmus+ projects I’ve been in!

In 2019 from 10 February to 16 February Apice took part in the “Non-Formal Education in Action” Training Course in the city of Timisoara in Romania. Nine different nations participated: Italy, Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Poland and Slovakia and allowed a great cultural and practical growth to all the participants.

“Non-Formal Education in Action” is a training course based on everything that takes place outside the curriculum provided for by formal education. Non-formal learning activities take place on a voluntary basis and are carefully designed to encourage the personal, social and professional development of the participants.

In Europe, most citizens have received some form of schooling in their lives. This formal schooling is normally based on a “vertical” relationship between student and teacher: one who possesses knowledge and transmits it (teacher) and one who receives it (learner). The non-formal education, on the contrary, can be explained with the formula “learning by doing”, that is to learn directly in the field. The learning methodology consists of the interaction between learners and the concrete situations they experience. There are no teachers who give ex-cathedra factions: young people, youth leaders, educators (trainers) develop together knowledge and skills, in a “horizontal” relationship.…
